TMC Acknowledgment

Gua Sha comes from the long and rich history of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is used commonly among TCM practitioners for a variety of health concerns all over the body. In the skincare industry, Gua Sha is a booming trendy item for tightening skin and promoting circulation. For more information on the traditional uses of Gua Sha, consult with a registered practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

For the purpose of honouring this tool in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is important to mention the difference between Facial Gua Sha at home, and Gua Sha as performed by a registered acupuncturist or TCM doctor.

Facial Gua Sha should be practiced with soft strokes to gently move lymph and promote blood flow to the face, without causing any lasting marks on the skin.

How to use: Use your Gua Sha 1-2x a week on clean skin. Prep skin by dampening with toner, and then immediately following with 2-4 pumps of your face oil. This will help to provide a slip to the Gua Sha tool so it doesn't tug on your skin.

Do your Gua Sha routine in the evening, as it can cause the skin to flush from increased circulation.

Use the most gentle pressure when stroking the Gua Sha around your eye area.

Create an Anchor: Use your opposite hand and hold the skin at the starting point to create tension with each step.
